NERVE BLOCKS
Nerve blocks involve administering medication to temporarily interrupt nerve function, which can assist in identifying the source of leg lameness. Pain observed during physical examination or pathology found through imaging does not always correspond to the actual origin of the lameness. The precise cause of pain leading to lameness may be unclear. If a blocked area results in no change in gait, it suggests that the problem may originate higher up the limb or body. A general region or a specific joint may be targeted for blocking. Although not always definitive, nerve blocks are a useful tool in facilitating diagnosis.
